Daroga

The EDF was not willing to wait for them to catch a cold.

Daroga2

A Daroga fires off its Death Ray attack while another tries its less effective "blowing up" attack.

The Daroga is a Ravager walking machine seen in Monster Attack, Global Defence Force, and Earth Defense Force 2: Invaders From Planet Space. In games after Global Defence Force (which IfPS is a remake of) it is replaced with the Hector.

Description[]

The Daroga is very closely based on the Martian Tripod walkers from HG Wells' War of the Worlds, though the Ravagers have decided to give theirs an extra leg and an extra attack. They have four huge, slender legs supporting a UFO-like body with a long spindle-like lower section and four rotating appendages on the top.

The Daroga is a slow but powerful opponent; it has tough armor and heavy firepower, and its giant size means it commands a good view of the battlefield.

Their most common attack is their "Death Ray," a series of blue bolts of energy fired from the appendages on top of the Daroga, which glow when they are about to fire. These bolts have a small blast radius on impact.

Against enemies above them or in aircraft, Darogas will fire homing missiles, based on the Martian Tripods' use of gas missiles. The missiles are fired one at a time: they are powerful, long-ranged and have a large blast radius.

Finally, on the underside of their body they have a rapid-fire weapon resembling a machine gun, which they will use on enemies that get close to them. This weapon fires diagonally down from the six rotating prongs at the base of the "spindle" structure, and since these rotate rather than the Daroga actually aiming them, the attack does not tend to do a lot of damage. It becomes more focused at higher difficulties.

These attacks are roughly analogous to a Hector's weaponry: respectively, the Spark Launcher, Plasma Cannon and Particle Gatling Gun, with the key differences being a Daroga always has all of them, but a Hector's versions are overall more effective.

Like Hectors, Darogas have exaggerated flinch animations that will prevent them effectively returning fire if they are hit constantly: they are thus very vulnerable to the Pale Wing's Rapier weapons in Global Defence Force. That aside, they are best fought with high-damage weapons such as the Infantry's sniper rifles and rocket launchers, though since their close-range attack is hilariously ineffective they can also be dealt with quite effectively using shotguns.

The Deroy introduced in Global Defence Force is effectively an advanced version of the Daroga.
