Unlike other games in the series, the player can choose between playing as the male soldier known as Storm 1 who can use normal weapons and use vehicles or a female specialty class known as the [[Pale Wing]], which instead uses energy-based weaponry and can fly for short periods of time. [[Earth Defense Force Insect Armageddon]] comes close to this design but instead improved upon it by keeping both soldiers and "pale wings" (now known as "[[Jet Armor]]") as separate classes that, along with two other classes, could be switched on the fly between levels.

Overview

Global Defense Force (also known as Global Defence Force or Earth Defense Force 2) is the 2nd installment of the Earth Defense Force series, which was released on the PlayStation 2 in Japan and Europe but never in North America.

Unlike other games in the series, the player can choose between playing as the male soldier known as Storm 1 who can use normal weapons and use vehicles or a female specialty class known as the Pale Wing, which instead uses energy-based weaponry and can fly for short periods of time. Earth Defense Force Insect Armageddon comes close to this design but instead improved upon it by keeping both soldiers and "pale wings" (now known as "Jet Armor") as separate classes that, along with two other classes, could be switched on the fly between levels. Earth Defense Force 2025 is also slotted to utilize this tactic, with the soldier class (now known as the Ranger) still existing and the Pale Wing being 'upgraded' to the (Wing Diver).

Behind the scenes
