Kruul attacking

Kruul[]

Kruul are an enemy introduced in Earth Defense Force 6. They appear either pre-spawned or are dropped in aboard their namesake capsules/dropships, with up to 3 fitting inside at a time. The Kruul appear like octopus, with 8 limbs that can all be shot away as well as a rounded head.

Earth Defense Force 6[]

Kruul make their exclusive appearance in EDF 6, where they act as a major step up in difficulty. They first appear after the second timewarp, and are often described as "demons" by humankind due to their frightening appearance.

Their main party trick is the rounded energy shields they carry to deflect incoming projectiles: a short burst of medium range gunfire is met with a demoralizing display of superiority as the Kruul deftly collects each incoming projectile with its shield. However, as quickly noted by the game, they are not invincible as repeated gunfire turns the shield progressively more red and eventually a solid black, at which point it "overheats" for a few seconds, turning unable to move and giving EDF troopers the chance to attack around the shield before it recovers and turns mobile again.

The noodly, stretchy nature of the Kruul's arms also allows them to hide behind buildings and poke out their weapon arms around the corner for rather cartoony looking but dangerously accurate "blind firing" attacks.

Normal Kruul[]

Aside from the aforementioned shield, regular Kruul troops also wield one of three different kinds of weapons. The most common weapon fires a blue, curiously slow moving laser beam dealing high amounts of sustained damage, but its slowness makes it fairly easy to escape.

The second variant paints its target with a green targeting laser before firing off a spread of electric sticky bombs, notably similar to an Air Raider's Limpet Gun, which explode after a couple of seconds. While individual bomblets are fairly weak, the sheer volume of them means a very wide area of effect at medium range and very high amounts of damage at closer ranges.

The third variant goes for a sniper approach with a very long ranged and very deadly gun firing a burst of electricity. The gun charges for quite a while with a red targeting laser and a very distinctive noise, but its huge total damage and high muzzle velocity makes it extremely dangerous, especially since the lightning shares the strange physics of Wing Diver's lightning guns and can occasionally snake around obstacles to hit units behind cover.

Elite Kruul[]

Elite Kruul, unlike their normal counterparts, have two shields and two guns. They keep the weaponry from the regular Kruul, but the main challenge is the two shields, making them harder to hit than other variants.

Artillery Kruul[]

Artillery Kruul are pink-ish in nature and carry artillery cannons. Attacks by these weapons will knock down humans and have a trajectory similar to howitzers, firing high into the sky and coming down on a position. These cannons have very little error and will often hit their mark, but the projectile speed is abysmal, meaning you can often outrun the incoming fire. These variants do not spawn with shields, making them the easiest to deal with out of the 3.
