Mountain Pass Trap is the fourty-seventh offline mission and the fifty-first online mission in Earth Defense Force 2025 and the fourty-ninth offline mission and the fifty-third online mission in Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair.
Objective[]
2025: We are attacking the insects gathered in the mountains. An attack squad was sent, but they were forced back with casualties. The Retarius forms the hub of the enemy army making advance difficult. We'll send Air Forces a cannon squad and transport units. The Air Raiders will coordinate with these support squads. Good luck.

Storyline[]
Storm Team and a team of Rangers are on top of a hill overlooking onto a valley where the Retiarii made their webs with giant insects covering them. The Tactics Officer reports that the Earth Eaters are slowly covering the Earth and most urban regions are lost to them. There isn't any more radio chatter after that. Sometime during the mission Earth Eaters also appear above the mountain. The mission ends when all insects are destroyed.
4.1 Changes[]
The mission starts at a lower area of the map and the webs are almost completely covering it.
The mission features more EDF units, but most of them already caught in the webs. HQ even orders to rescue them at the beginning of the mission.
There are more enemies and on harder difficulties mutant variants will also appear.

Strategy[]
4.1[]
Bring weapons that can deal with swarms of insects with enough range to hit Hornets. Also bring a high damage weapon against the Retiarii.
The mission is mostly a straight road that goes through the valley with the insects paced in small groups along it. While all of them are placed in one wave they won't attack until something provokes them which means that you can move slowly and kill one group at a time.
While it's pointed out on the mission's description that air and artillery support is given, nothing changes gameplay wise and they work like normal. Air Raiders might find it difficult to effectively use them because the webs are covering most of the area and they are protecting the bugs below. However since most support calls shoot multiple shots, if the first shots can destroy the webs the latter ones can get some hits in.
