" The Greater Wild Dragon had a fabulous makeover "

Siren[]

Siren is a boss-type enemy introduced in Earth Defense Force 6. It's deign is a spitting image of a dragon with several more bird like features, most noticeable when perched on the ground, it also has several large spikes and plates running down it's back and a spiked tail.

The Siren makes it's debut in EDF 6, acting as a kaiju enemy similar to Erginus and Archelus. Siren first appeared a third through the game. It first appears at the end of a trilogy of cave expedition missions, where the following mission and several afterwards have the player deal with it attacking them throughout the game. The Siren's attacks are mostly consistent of breathing fire in a similar manner to the Greater Wild Dragon. It also attacks by swooping down like a bird of prey. It is later accidentally transformed into Glaukos in mission 96, Operation Bird-Buster with the high-output orbital laser cannon. At the end of mission 136, The Giant God Comes Crashing, three Siren attack the remaining Bargas, though, their efforts were futile. Notably, both Siren and Glaukos are constantly followed by the enemy Scylla.

Glaukos[]

Glaukos is a powered up form of Siren, first appearing in mission 80, Banquet of the Water God, flying past the player. It is nearly identical to Siren, aside from a few main differences, mainly, it's lava-like skin, dropping explosive rocks and having a red laser replace the fire, which forms a cloud of purple damaging mist. Glaukos makes it's proper debut in mission 96, Operation Bird-Buster, where the EDF cause siren to fall over with the help of EMC. They fire their high-output orbital laser cannon on it, but instead of killing it, it evolves into Glaukos. Later in the game, on mission 103, Exterminate the Monsters, after clearing out several monsters, the EDF are surprise attacked by both Glaukos and Archelus, though, they instantly turn on each other and Glaukos, rather anticlimactically kills Archelus in one hit. Glaukos is confronted for the final time in mission 105, Operation Bird-Buster II, where the player and several other soldiers pilot EMC, and Submarine carrier Pandora with it's Chiren Charges engage in a three stage boss fight with Glaukos, eventually killing it.

Trivia[]

  • Siren's Glaukos form seems to be a homage to Burning Godzilla from Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, with it's lava-like texture and red heat ray.
  • Siren/Glaukos is only kaiju enemy to ragdoll on death instead of playing a death animation, similar to the Greater Wild Dragon, it awkwardly folds on death.
